No one wants moisture in their camper. Moisture leads to mold which can be a health hazzard. It can also affect the integrity of your camper. Here are our top 5 tips for avoiding moisture in your camper:
Keep air moving in your camper. We have a ceiling fan in our Heartland Big Horn. We keep it on at all times to help with airflow. This also applies to using your air conditioner. Our unit has a "fan" mode which we use at times with both heating and cooling of our rig.
Use your vent fans. We have 3 vent fans for our 5er. We use our bathroom vent fan every time we take a shower. This helps to move the moisture from the shower up and out of our rig. We have a Fantastic Fan in the kitchen which we use when cooking. The thrid vent fan is our microwave vent which directs moist air back out of the camper. We use this when we are using the stove. Important: make sure the exhaust flap on the outside of the camper is open.
When it's cold out, we use both our electic fireplace as well as our propane furnace. The electric helps to dry the air while your propane furnace can increase moisture.
Keep your doors and windows closed when it is humid and rainy outside. And on cold days, keep your shades down to prevent heat transfer and condensation buildup.
Use a Moisture Eliminator. We always have 3 of these in our RV and in humid climates, they fill up fairly quickly. When we were stationary in Florida getting ready to leave on our adventure I bought these and I was super surprised at how much water they collected.
