Repairing Damaged Hydraulic Brake Lines

Updated: Sep 11, 2022

I was called to work on an Alliance 5th wheel. The hydraulic brakes were rubbing because the manufacturer didn’t install the brackets to keep the brake line off the tires. Alliance sent the customer brackets to have installed and I replaced the flexible parts of the line and installed the brackets.

I then bled all four calipers to remove air from the lines. Bleeding the air is a two person job because someone has to work the trailer brake controller while the RV tech opens and closes the bleeder valves and catches all of the expelled brake fluid. If you do not bleed the lines the brakes won’t work correctly and may cause a dangerous situation for the owner.
