When Replacing RV Vents make sure you have the right sizes for your openings and a compatible type of vent hood if you are installing one above your vent. These are great for protecting your vent covers from damage and also help reduce heat/and ambient light from sunlight.
Once you confirm that you have all of the needed tools and parts for the installation, you can start by removing the old self leveling sealant with a plastic putty knife. Careful not to tear or gouge the roof material around the flange of the vent.
Next remove all of the old hardware and gently pry between the vent flange and the roof material as you lift the old vent away from the opening. Before disconnecting the wiring, take a photo of any wiring connections so that you can refer back to it during the installation of the new vent.
Before installing the new vent, make sure you double check clearances, and clean the area around the opening with soapy water followed by denatured alcohol.
Once the opening is clean and dry, I like to apply a barrier of roof repair tape such as Eternabond to help reinforce the seal between the roofing material and the underlayment or structural frame of the RV.
Make the appropriate wiring connections and test operation of the vent prior to installation.
Position and secure the vent using the new hardware; and seal all with self leveling compound such as Dicor.
Finally you can install the appropriate vent hood for your fan.
