Upgrading You RV From Lead Acid To Lithium Batteries

This article contains links for products that may earn us a comission.

When you’re changing out your 12V lead acid or AGM Batteries with upgraded 12V LiPo4 batteries, consider size of the space as well as the type and function of the BMS and charging system you will want. These batteries offer an affordable factory replacement with BMS that provides a wider operating range than most. The charging profile is different for Lithium than it is for lead acid or AGM batteries. 12V Lithium wants a set 14.6V incoming charge, while lead acid and AGM require variable charge voltages for bulk, absorption, float, and equalization charging. To accomplish this you can replace a 9200 series converter with a 9100ALV. Be sure to use the same amperage converter or hire a qualified professional to ensure that your 12V system and incoming 110V power supplies can support the installed equipment.

If you plan to install more batteries, a different voltage or higher amp hours system when replacing your factory installed batteries, consult with a professional before proceeding. These upgrades may require, different controllers, inverters, or DC to DC chargers to prevent dangerous conditions, possible fire, and/or damage to your RV or tow vehicle’s electrical components.
