What I’ve Learned in 6 Months of Full-Fime RVing (Kelly’s Point of View)

  1. I love moving day. For me, it’s not only the excitement of heading somewhere new, it’s the beautiful, clean “house”! Moving day is the day that I put everything away. The ever so slight OCD side of me just loves having a blank slate once a week!

  2. We still like each other. This was one of the first questions our friends and family asked after we started on our adventure, “are y’all getting along ok in that tight space?” And the answer is a resounding YES! We have the occasional spat about nonsense same as everyone but we are truly having a blast! I believe that one of the key components of getting along is spoken gratefulness. We verbally compliment each other often and are thankful for the part that each other plays in our adventure.

  3. God is in charge of where we move. This has become so apparent as we travel down the road. Usually it shows up in Jonathan’s ability to help people with the RV’s as we travel. It’s also evident in some of the places we’ve come across that we didn’t know we were going to see. God loves surprising us with these little gifts. This is also so helpful to keep in mind as I’m booking our places to stay. Anyone can tell you that trying to coordinate all of the travel logistics can be super stressful! But knowing that God is working it all out and has a hand in everywhere we are going gives me peace of mind that I can’t screw us up too badly!

  4. My favorite place keeps changing. I’m so in awe of this country and all of the beautiful places. I love that the United States has seen fit to preserve that beauty in the form of National Parks, State Parks and US Forests. I keep thinking that “this is it, this is my favorite place we will visit”. And then God is like “oh really, what til you see what I have for you next!” And I’m blown away!

  5. There is so much land in the United States. Like SO MUCH LAND!! 36% of all US land is owned by the Federal Government and an additional 9% of all land is owned by the State Governments A lot of that is preserved as “public use” land. That leaves about 55% of all land available. Out of all US land, only approximately 5% is inhabited!! We as a country have smooshed ourselves into 5% of all of the land!

  6. I don’t have as much time as I thought I would. We are so consumed with taking in every single drop of everywhere we go that I’ve found it hard to find time to “do nothing”. When free days come along, I’ve treasured the opportunity to write, work, or just relax with a book or tv show.

  7. I miss my people. Desperately! Between the kids, the parents and our precious friends, it’s hard not to turn around and plant our butts back in the south! But to everything under the sun there is a time… And this is our time to explore!

  8. It is windy out west! In the South we don’t often experience the winds that we’ve experienced in AZ, NM and UT. We’ve only been able to sparingly set up our outdoor living spaces because of the wind.

  9. New Mexico is dry. Really dry. We had a few problems in New Mexico. First, dry skin. We were so crazy itchy. I couldn’t use enough lotion to make my skin happy! Second, we lost a set of tires. The mechanic at the tire shop called it New Mexico Dry Rot. Before this we didn’t bother with tire covers because we move so often that our 5th wheel doesn’t sit much. After the New Mexico Dry Rot incident, we immediately bought tire covers to protect our investment.

  10. I wear the same type of outfits almost every day and do laundry once a week. I seriously could have packed for a week, maybe add in a dress and I would have been fine.

  11. We love hiking! When given a choice between exploring a city or checking out the countryside, we almost always choose the countryside.

  12. Our RV is so comfortable! We love everything about it! I think there is a misconception about the size of RV’s. Ours is almost 500 square feet, we have tons of storage and I really don’t feel that I’ve given up any of life’s “comforts” in taking this adventure!
