Where We Saw Wildlife In Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park has some of the most abundant wildlife of any of the National Parks that we have visited. Every day we saw different animals throughout the park. Here is what we saw in each section of Glacier:

West Glacier- We rented a motor boat at McDonald Lake and while touring the lake we saw deer as well as bald eagles and golden eagles. The eagles were easily spotted because they loved to hang out in the tops of the burnt trees along the water’s edge. We also saw schools of fish in the clear water. Here are my full notes on our day in West Glacier.

Going to The Sun- At Logan’s Pass we saw Big Horn Sheep every evening around sunset to dusk. We hiked the Hidden Lake Overlook trail one evening and ended up surrounded by the Big Horn Sheep which was a bit nerve wracking for a moment. Here are my full notes on our hike to Hidden Lake.

Two Medicine- On our hike to Astor Falls we walked by several lakes and ponds. In one of the ponds we saw a beaver swimming towards his beaver dam. We also saw some areas that looked very “moosey” if we had come at either dawn or dusk. Here are my full notes on our day in Two Medicine.

East Glacier- Almost every time we drove we drove in and out of the park from the St. Mary’s entrance we saw bears. They liked to feed in the brambly bushes along the side of the road opposite of the lake. Here are my full notes on our hike on the St. Mary's side.

Many Glaciers- As we drove into the Many Glaciers section of the park we saw bears on both side of the road. We also saw moose and a fox on the side of the road opposite of the lake. We did an early morning hike to Redrock Falls and saw a moose in the middle of Fishercap Lake dunking his head in the water and eating his breakfast. Here are my full notes on the Many Glaciers part of the park.

Waterton Park- On the Canadian side of these International Peace Parks we were very pleased to see many Canadian animals. Deer are very common walking through the town. We also saw bear eating berries in the brambles along the side of the road as we left the park. Here are my full notes on our trek to the Canadian part of the park.

We loved Glacier National Park and all of our wildlife encounters.
