High Road to Taos

Santa Fe Through the Mountains to Taos, New Mexico

A day trip from Santa Fe to Taos is very worthwhile. We highly recommend taking the High Road to Taos. It winds its way through the National Forest and gives you some spectacular views. Between Santa Fe and Taos, you will experience approximately 200 feet elevation up and then back down to approximately the same elevation you were at to begin with. If you take the High Road, be sure to plan your food and bathroom stops carefully. It's approximately 1.5 hours and there aren't many places to stop along the way.

Taos, NM is a beautiful artsy town. Due to Covid-19, the Pueblo Village in Taos was closed in March, 2022 so we hope to go back and see that someday.

While in Taos, make sure to take a quick ride out to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. The Gorge is 800 feet deep down to the Rio Grande River.
