Ice Cave and Bandera Volcano

A Visit to the Land of Fire and Ice

This off the beaten path, natural attraction, is located due west of Albuquerque. The Bandera Volcano is very accessible, and at the end of the trail you are actually standing inside the volacano. The crater is 800' deep and 1400' wide at the top. The lava flow is 23 miles long. The lava tunnels created the ice caves. The temperature at the ice cave is 31 degrees. The ice is approx 20' thick . The insulation from the volacno helps to trap the frigid air.

We recommend taking the full loop which is approximately 1 mile. There are 17 stops along the way and a phamplet to educate you as you hike the trail.

We felt the $12 pp fee was well worth the experience.
