Arches National Park

A Geological Wonderland

With miles of hiking trails and off road trails to explore, Arches National Park can hold your attention for days. There are over 2000 cataloged arches inside the park. A 3' opening is the minimum requirement to be considered an arch and the longest arch inside the park is Landscape Arch which is 306' long.

With the timed entry system, we ended up with a 2pm start to our day. We decided to drive to the end of the park and work our way backwards. From the Devil's Garden Trailhead we entered a narrow slot canyon and worked our way to Tunnel Arch and Pine Tree Arch. We then backtracked briefly and took the rest of the trail out to Landscape Arch and Navajo Arch. This first hike was a total of approximately 2 miles round trip.

We then hopped back into the truck and drove down to Upper and Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoints. Lower viewpoint is super easy to get to. The Upper viewpoint is a rocky, uphill climb of about a half mile.

From there we made our way to the Window's Section of the park. If you don't have much time, this is the section of the park that we recommend hitting first. We hiked the 1 mile loop up to the North Window, around the corner to the South Window and then down the path to Turret Arch. These 3 arches also face the La Sal Mountains which are absolutely breathtaking! Across the parking lot is the trailhead for Double Arch. We recommend moving your vehicle from the top of the parking lot down to the next parking lot to access the Double Arch Trail. This was an easy half mile hike out and back. There is also an opportunity for some rock climbing to get up into this amazing arch.
