Great Falls

Dams, Waterfalls and A Spring Along the Missouri River

Great Falls, Montanta is an amazing mid sized city along the Western side of Montana. As full time travelers, we welcomed the chance to stock up on some necessary items at some well know chain stores. After that it was time to see what makes this area different from a normal suburban twn. Given the name, "Great Falls" we decided to drive along the River Road to see the waterfalls ourselves. We made it as far as the Black Eagle Dam when we saw some scooters for rent and decided that touring up close near the river instead of by car would be a lot more fun! We took off down the River's Edge Trail toward Giant Springs State Park stopping multiple times for pictures.

About a mile from our starting point was Giant Springs State Park and Fish Hatchery. First recorded by Lewis and Clark in 1805, this spring truly is a Giant! It produces over 156 million gallons of water per day! The water then flows directly into the Missouri River.

Continuing on, we were able to ride our scooters to Rainbow Falls and to just before Crooked Falls. We had such a great time exploring the River's Edge Trail and highly recommend scooters or bikes or even a nice hike on foot.

While you're in Great Falls, we also recommend the famous Roadhouse Diner. Click HERE for our full review of this delicious burger joint.
