Meteor Crater Natural Landmark

Where did that meteorite go anyway?

The biggest meteor site in the United States, at 4000 feet wide and 600 feet deep, there could be 20 football games playing simultaneously on the floor of the crater and 2 million people could be watching from the sides.

One of the biggest mysteries of the crater is, where is the meteorite? After decades of scientific research, they have learned that, on impact, most of the pieces disintegrated into small little beads. The largest intact piece they found weighs approximately 150 pounds.

There are multiple tiers of lookout points, including one from inside the museum building. Also included in the entrance fee is a guided rim tour which walks a 1/2 mile out along the edge of the rim and back.

Meteor Crater is privately owned by The Berringer Company and is not part of the NPS. There is a fee of $24 per adult. Fur babies are not allowed however they do have a doggie daycare on site.

Meteor Crater is very kid friendly. This 4D ride is super cute and the Discovery Center Museum is very educational. Conde Nest Traveler named Meteor Crater one of the 7 wonders of the world of 2020. We definitely recommend adding this as a stop on your Arizona travels.
