Mount Lemmon

From Desert to Forest- A Drive from Tucson up Mount Lemmon

A must do while in the Tucson area is a day trip to Mt Lemmon. From Tucson at 2200 foot elevation you will climb to 9000 foot elevation at the ski resort town at the top of Mount Lemmon. Be sure to bring extra layers because in March, we went from 80 degrees at the desert floor to 37 degrees at the top of the mountain. We were happy to have our sweatshirts and hats as we ascended in elevation.

As you are leaving Tucson, be sure to download the Mt. Lemmon Science Tour app. This 6 part informative app will guide and educate you as you climb the mountain.

There are multiple opportunities to pull over and take short or long hikes and get amazing pictures of the ever changing scenery. At the top of the mountain we stopped to enjoy the snow and a shared a meal at the Iron Door Restaurant.

From Mother Road Brewing Company we started with a delicious Tower Station IPA. We tried their famous chili made with soft tri-tip meat which was on the spicier side of hot. We had a half Aspen Ridge sandwich which had a barbecue sauce ham and cheese and bacon on a soft ciabatta bread. We also tried the German potato salad and for dessert we had the crumble top mountain berry peach ala mode. If nothing else, come in and get a piece of the pie!
