Grand Teton National Park

Striking Mountains Rising Above the Lakes and River

Our first day in Grand Teton tried to get up early to get to Moose Ponds early in the morning but our morning routine got us into the park just before 10 am. We hiked the Moose Ponds loop trail from 10 to 11 AM. From the parking lot it is only .3 of a mile to the ponds and another mile for the loop. We felt fortunate that at that time of day we still saw moose with her babies wandering through the woods and down into the ponds. The loop goes around to the lower parking lot and so we recommend only going as far as about halfway to the overlook of the two main ponds and then turning around, especially if you want to continue on to inspiration point or hidden Falls.

As we walked back down towards the shuttle boat we saw a male and a female moose bedded down in the woods to our left.
