Yellowstone National Park Day 2

From Old Faithful to the West Entrance

After a leisurely morning of breakfast, work and paying bills, our first stop of the day was Old Faithful, which typically erupts approximately every 90 minutes and was predicted for 12:06 pm. Finally, after a few false starts, she showed herself at 12:20.

Our next stop was Grand Prismatic Overlook which is a 1 mile hike each way from the parking lot of Fairy Falls. This hike gives you the famous views of the colorful Grand Prismatic Spring.

The Fountain Paint Pot Trail is a one half mile boardwalk loop. On this walk, Silex Spring Is striking as the orange bacteria mat edges up to the rim of the turquoise pool. Clepsydra Geyeser has colorful pools and a continually erupting Fountain.

Next we stopped along the Nez Perce Creek for some more fishing and caught some fish.

Along Grand Loop Road by the Firehole River we saw really big fish and got some bites but didn’t stay long enough to catch anything.

Next we turned toward the West Yellowstone entrance and fished along the Madison River. We saw lots of fish and a muskrat swimming in the river.

Over in West Yellowstone we gassed up and grabbed some BBQ from Firehole BBQ, an amazing joint that has been featured on Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives.

As we drove back down Hwy 89 at dusk we saw several elk near Grant Village.
